February 21, 2020

By Kendal Kuneman. Kendal is an Energy & Sustainability Consultant with Energy Sciences, as well as the company’s acting Sustainability Officer. The firm helps clients meet energy challenges with practical solutions that reduce waste and increase net operating income.

Thanks to leadership of the company’s owners, Shelley Sullivan and Frank Schulmeister, Energy Sciences’ deep commitment to sustainability is evident not only in the work that we do, but also within our office culture. Our company’s mission is to provide energy consulting services and solutions with the utmost integrity, to practice and promote sustainable measures and to be socially responsible for the benefit of the planet and all living things.

Energy Sciences’ staff share the same passion for sustainability. To help lead and manage the company’s sustainability efforts, Kendal Kuneman was designated acting Sustainability Officer, following the initial leadership of Sue Josifoski. Additionally, a Green Team was formed with other staff members to meet monthly and support the company in achieving its sustainability goals.

In 2019, the company moved into a new office space in Berkley. During the buildout, energy efficient equipment was installed, including LED light fixtures, lighting controls – occupancy sensors, furnace and programmable thermostats.

In addition, Energy Sciences implemented over 60 sustainability actions in 2019! We categorized each action as behavioral, solid waste, compost, purchasing, energy, water and other. The chart below shows the percentage of sustainability actions by category, with most primarily being solid waste and energy waste reduction. Below is a list of the top 10 sustainability actions we accomplished last year:

  1. Ongoing employee education and awareness
